August is already flying by, but I wanted to give readers a peek at what's on the schedule this month:

Community moderator news

Nicole at ATO 2014We're excited to announce that five new community moderators joined our Opensource.com team starting August 1:

Most of our moderators, including our new additions, will join us in North Carolina in October for our annual team meeting and to attend All Things Open October 19-20 at the Raleigh Convention Center. Stay tuned for more details about where you'll find us at All Things Open. Until then, check out the great 2015 speaker lineup and see what you missed last year.

Diversity in open source

Next week we kick off our Diversity in Open Source article series. We'd like every week to be about diversity in open source, which is why we try to collect a diverse mix of stories throughout the year. If you didn't get a story submitted in time for next week's theme, we still encourage you to send in an article proposal.

Upcoming open source events

Last month we took a deep dive into OSCON, with a series of speaker interviews and event reports. In August, we'll feature interviews with LinuxCon North America and Texas Linux Fest speakers. The LinuxCon series starts August 11, and check back the week of August 17 for Texas Linux Fest interviews.

Speaking of LinuxCon, I'll be speaking at LinuxCon in Seattle on August 17. Maybe I'll see you there?Photo by All Things Open. CC BY-NC-ND 2.0.

We're also looking for writers who would like to contribute to our LinuxCon Europe interview series. Let us know if you're interested in conducting an email interview with one of the speakers. Or, if you're speaking at LinuxCon in Dublin and would like to be interviewed or contribute an article about your talk or project, let us know. You can email us at open@opensource.com or submit your idea through our webform.

The year isn't over yet, but 2016 conference planning is already underway. If your open source event isn't on our event calendar yet, please add it.

Call for articles

Our call for Youth in Open Source articles is open for our September series. If you have an idea for an article, send in your proposal soon. Article drafts are due by August 21.

We're also starting on our October Most Open Month theme. We're looking for stories about how readers got started in open source (My Open Source Story), and we're also hoping to publish a first-time Opensource.com contributor every day in October.

Find out more about upcoming themes on our editorial calendar. If you have questions, you can find us on Freenode IRC at #opensource.com, or email us at open@opensource.com.
