aaronsw Memorial Hackathon
Where: HacDC (1525 Newton St NW, Washington, DC 20010)
HacDC will be hosting one of many, self-organized, global hackathons to memorialize the late Aaron Swartz (November 8, 1986 – January 11, 2013).
Participants will be asked to advance solutions to issues that were near to Aaron's heart.
Possible activities for the day include furthering work on his repositories, opening access to information belonging in the public domain, developing or contributing to countermeasures to Internet censorship, and exploring code-driven methods to enhance social justice through access to data.

Alameda County Apps Challenge
The Alameda County Apps Challenge is expected to bring together more than 150 software developers, community members, activists and entrepreneurs for a full day of coding using data sets from Alameda County, California. The end result will be the creation of web and/or mobile applications that benefit Alameda County residents, businesses and visitors. This is the second in a series of Apps Challenges or hackathons that are part of the County’s Data Sharing Initiative to make government more transparent and accessible through technology and innovation. Cash prizes up to $3000 will be awarded for First, Second and Third Prize.
