We're happy to announce a new open source resources section. To kick things off, we've added pages that highlight open source conferences and events, organizations, and projects and applications. It's not much, but it's a start. We have lots of ideas, and want to make this more robust and improve functionality. But for now, let's see if this idea catches on. » Read more

What comes after Rock Star?

Earlier this year, we announced our launch of a points and badge system. Many of you are on the site daily, voting, rating, commenting, and earning points to show your activity. Over the next few weeks, we plan to wrap up the beta phase of this system. We will also start exploring a few enhancements that focus on point transparency and community recognition.

Many of you have asked for details on how your points are being earned (an audit trail) and for some type of points leaderboard. We think these are great ideas and are investigating how Drupal can provide this functionality. We want to be sure that we are making site enhancements that will positively impact our community members. » Read more

What should “Should be” be?

Some community members are already familiar with the “What should opensource.com be?” section on the site. The original idea was to create a section for constant feedback and a place where we could announce new additions and features to the community.

Proposed changes to comment section

User-led innovation can't create breakthroughs. Really?

Open source software gains ground in higher education

Open source software is becoming a dominant force in the software world and the world in general. Unfortunately, many universities still teach computer science without any mention of this recent advance. In the fall of 2007, Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) set out to change this.

RSS updates, What We're Reading enhancements, Flickr stream

Starting today, you'll see a few changes around opensource.com. We've made some updates based on community input. Thanks to those who have already taken our quick, six-question survey. Your feedback is very useful--keep it coming.

The most important change to the site was to our main RSS feed, http://opensource.com/feed. Starting today, this feed will be updated with each new article posted to the site, not just the posts appearing on the home page. It's a great way for you to keep up with the latest information from opensource.com.
