openwashing

Brent Turner of the California Association of Voting Officials (CAVO) talks with us about the unfortunate trend for vendors to "openwash" their offerings; that is, to misrepresent proprietary products as if they were open source, with the intent of making them more appealing.

Openwashing is when a company undertakes egregious marketing and promotion schemes that exaggerate their participation in / contributions to / licensing of open source software. How can you be sure you are aware and not affected?

Are you open source enough?
Is your project open source enough? Are you? Are you doing enough for your communities?
