Open source brands and logos often feature animals. In the image above you might be able to think of one or a few open source projects those animals might represent.

In one of Jeff Macharyas's latest articles, he highlights six open source projects with iconic brands, with some background on what the animal is and where it came from.

In this poll, we came up with a few more to add to his list for you to vote on: Which is your favorite?

The GIMP whatever-it-is scores highest for me, but that doesn't mean the others aren't right up there when I think of open source projects.

The Gimp is a gimp! And I agree, it's a great one.

OpenSuSE's cameleon (lizards, in genedal)

I've heard it is a "Geeko" ;)

KDE's Konqi the Dragon

OSCON Tarsier

Tuz, the Tasmanian Devil with a fake nose pretending to be tux.
This was the logo for linux.conf.au 9 years ago (and this year) and was included in the linux source to replace tux for a version of linux.
I believe the logo is still included in the source code and can be selected at compile time.

Does FreeBSD'S "Beastie" count? He'd be my #1 pick.

If his kind are forbidden then I'd choose OpenBSD's "Puffy" the pufferfish.

It's not that I prefer the BSD's over other OS's (I don't) but I do find them the most appealing

Fedora's panda and badger :-)

Perl - Camel

Krita's cyber-squirrel Kiki is, clearly, the superior critter :) Though KDE's Konqi and his vast dragon family is a pretty close second :)

It would have to be the OpenNMS Kiwi, Ulf:

Clippy the Paperclip, mwahahaha >:)

XFCE's mouse!

Gentoo's Lary (cow)

Always been partial to the BSD daemon mascot (aka, Beastie).

Jen and baraka312 I agree with the both of you. I like Gimp and the openSUSE chameleon. These two mascots along with Tux are my top three mascots.

Trusty Tahr. I don't use Ubuntu anymore, but Trusty Tahr was my favourite Ubuntu and favourite OpenSource animal

MySQL's dolphin?
Docker's whale?
OpenSUSE's Yast is an Aardvark, isn't it?

I did like the log for Yellow Dog Linux, but that was more the artistic style.

Doesn't somebody use a Manatee?

I voted the MariaDB seal. I once asked the #SuperTuxKart people about the possibility of MariaDB seal as a driver. They pointed me in the direction of something called "Blender." Maybe some kind soul here could point me to a tutorial.

Of the already-existing #STK characters, my favorite is Xue, the XFCE mouse.

I guess now that you mention it post-GRE-SQL does have an elephant mascot. So does PHP and so does Hadoop. Too many elephants!

Konqi the Dragon (KDE)

My favourite - the old FreeBSD Chuckie.

Blender's monkey Suzanne for me.
