  • Over the years, web designers and platform builders in Africa have been accused of not following due diligence when building platforms and websites using open source Content Management Systems. Customization, Security enhancements, bugs, and other things are not, in most cases, properly looked into. The end result has been incomplete websites to gaping security holes that have left thousands of websites unusable or easy attack to prowling hawkers.

CMS AFRICA SUMMIT wishes to bridge this gap by organizing conferences across the African continent that will bring experts from different leading CMSs to offer workshops, lectures and hands-on on different issues ranging from installation, customizations, updates, security enhancements, backups, extensions, modules, and other related issues.

These conferences will take place in the premises of African universities and students from different universities and colleges will be the priority attendees. Other attendees will be companies in the area of website and platform building and any other persons who would want to add to their knowledge in the same field.

  • Open access to scientific publications is already recognised as a standard for the dissemination of knowledge. Researchers publish in open access journals and deposit their works in open access repositories. All over the world institutions such as
governments, research funders and universities implement open access policies. But Open Science is not only about open access. The pilot on Open Research Data in Horizon 2020 provides a prominent example of moving towards openness of data.
The scope of Open Science also includes other phenomena, such as open notebook science or open peer-review.

  • Lots of great digital preservation applications and services exist, however very few are actively maintained and thus preserved! This is a big problem! By introducing the steps to develop these and engage the support of the community, this training course looks at what can be done to improve this situation. Specifically, this training course looks at how to prepare packages for submission into the very heart of many digital environments; the operating system and directly associated “app-stores”. Attendees will be given hands-on experience with developing and maintaining packages rather than software and key differences will be discussed and evaluated. Better preservation of preservation tools, means better preservation our digital history.
