We are pleased to announce the first LLVM Cauldron, to be held on Thursday September 8th 2016 in Hebden Bridge, UK. This is the day before the GNU Tools Cauldron being held at the same venue, so we hope to take advantage of the high concentration of compiler enthusiasts and to encourage lots of cross-pollination between communities.

This will be a one-day conference with a single talks track and a space for breakout sessions, birds of a feather, and potentially tutorials. The meeting is free to attend and open to anyone whether a hobbyist, from academia, or from industry, and regardless of previous experience with LLVM.

The conference keynote will be delivered by Andy Wingo, maintainer of the Guile Scheme implementation and committer to V8 and SpiderMonkey. His talk will focus on compilation using persistent data structures, a technique used in Guile's intermediate language.

Much like the LLVM Developers' meetings, we believe the event will be of particular interest to the following people:

  • Active developers of projects in the LLVM Umbrella (LLVM core, Clang, LLDB, libc++, compiler_rt, klee, dragonegg, lld, etc).
  • Anyone interested in using these as part of another project.
  • Compiler, programming language, and runtime enthusiasts.
  • Those interested in using compiler and toolchain technology in novel and interesting ways.

This inaugural LLVM Cauldron will form part of the Wuthering Bytes technology festival in Hebden Bridge in the UK. Situated at the heart of the UK's "Northern Powerhouse", Hebden Bridge is roughly equidistant from Liverpool, Manchester, Sheffield, Leeds and Bradford. The Wuthering Bytes festival is a 10 day celebration of all things technological that are free and open source.

We are pleased to announce another gathering of GNU tools developers. The basic format of this meeting will be similar to the previous meetings. However this year the meeting will be immediately preceded by the first ever LLVM Cauldron.

The purpose of this workshop is to gather all GNU tools developers, discuss current/future work, coordinate efforts, exchange reports on ongoing efforts, discuss development plans for the next 12 months, developer tutorials and any other related discussions.

This time, the GNU Tools Cauldron will form the closing weekend of the Wuthering Bytes technology festival in Hebden Bridge in the UK.

We are inviting every developer working in the GNU toolchain: GCC, GDB, binutils, runtimes, etc. In addition to discussion topics selected at the conference, we are looking for advance submissions.

If you have a topic that you would like to present, please submit an abstract describing what you plan to present. We are accepting three types of submissions:

  • Prepared presentations: demos, project reports, etc.
  • BoFs: coordination meetings with other developers.
  • Tutorials for developers. No user tutorials, please.

Note that we will not be doing in-depth reviews of the presentations. Mainly we are looking for applicability and to decide scheduling. There will be time at the conference to add other topics of discussion, similarly to what we did at the previous meetings.

Held for the eighth consecutive year, OW2con is the annual community event that brings together the OW2 community and technology experts, software architects, IT developers, project managers and decision-makers from all around the world.

OW2con'16 is kindly hosted by Mozilla France. Many thanks to Mozilla Paris team for welcoming us!

The main theme for this year's conference is "Code to Product."

OW2's mission is to facilitate the development of a portfolio of open source infrastructure software and foster a business ecosystem for the exploitation of its open source code base. From a business perspective, we know that code is just a fraction of the software value chain. To become an actual product, code needs documentation, packaging, training, and a whole range of marketing, technical, financial and legal support. Only companies leveraging the open source business model really invest in productizing their software. For the rest of us, the gap between creating code and actually delivering a product to market is a challenge. At OW2, we call this the Delivery Challenge, which we help our projects address through our marketplace and market readiness program.

We would like to cover a wide range of topics from this perspective, including software quality and market readiness, accessibility, generic business applications, business intelligence, big data, privacy and security, IoT and mobility, and open source cloud computing. The CALL FOR PRESENTATIONS is open until July 15, 2016 and we are accepting proposals outside OW2. Registration will open early September.

All sessions will be held in English.

We look forward to a great OW2con 2016 edition!
