Well, that's what people like to say; it's "easier" on this or that. I might have said the same thing before learning GIMP, Inkscape, Krita, MyPaint, Blender, and others but give yourself some time, practise, and before you know it, you won't be able to honestly say that because it truly will be easier on open source. It's just a matter of perspective and experience.

LVM is fantastic. I use it at home whenever it happens to be the default, but at work it's indispensable! Got a file server that's running out of space? throw another drive in the tower, add it to the pool, and extend the file system. It's brilliant, and easy, and can be done on-the-fly (well, the hardware addition may depend on other things, but the software part certainly). Pretty amazing.
