SCC nailed it. Every one of those points is spot on. It's my computer and I want to set it up the way I want, Gnome devs don't realize that and instead have the attitude of controlling the user's experience. I do like some of the themes for it, (there are equally horrible looking themes) but the ability to change aspects of themes without being a themer is not easy.
