Great question.
Indeed one important factor when implementing this was to articulate the "what's in it for me?" factor for associates. This part was actually pretty easy.
We clearly articulated a few main benefits during communication and training building up to the launch: the program will enable you to get help faster when you need it, it will make it easier to learn and develop your skills, and it will allow you to focus on areas of expertise that are of the most interest to you. For senior engineers, who had less to learn and more to share, there is an implicit benefit of bolstering reputation by sharing knowledge, but also a more tangible benefit of enabling more people to work on complex issues, reducing the overall demand on senior engineers with very specific skill sets.
