I got started with open source software when a classmate helped me install Cygwin. Then I switched to Linux for many years. I still use Linux for servers but to be honest, I use a Mac for my personal computer. I still use open source software whenever I can and I enjoy sharing code. My current favorite open source tools are Emacs, Python, Git, OpenSuse, Inkscape, OBS, Lyx, Jabref, R/RStudio, Audacity, Sozi, Docker, and VirtualBox. I also like Perl a lot but I don't use it much these days. I've worked in software engineering and now I'm teaching it at the University of St. Thomas in Saint Paul, MN.
