So much more useful than currency. Honda did the same in Haiti, supplying much-needed generators as well as cash.
These stories make headlines because they seem rare - I would have assumed that any firms would send whatever they made if there was a use, leaving the others and banks to just donate cash.

And that cost will only be driven down / become better value as open source usage and competition increases.
