I'm a podiatrist practicing within an FQHC (Federally Qualified Health Center), a community health center serving as a safety net for the uninsured and under-insured in the United States.
I also serve as the director for the FreeMED Software Foundation, an Open Source Medical Record project, in existence since 1998. FreeMED is freely available but has commercial support here in the United States and elsewhere. (http://www.freemedsoftware.org).
I am a member of AccessMedicineNY, a group of physicians, dentists, nurses and other health professionals who support a non-profit clinic in Xela (Quetzeltenango) Guatemala. The clinic (http://www.popwujclinic.org), which we hope to make self supporting is supported by the Timmy Foundation (http://www.timmyfoundation.org) and through a local non-profit Spanish language School, Pop-Wuj (http://www.pop-wuj.org).
My wife and I live in Willimantic CT. We have three grown children. Jeff Buchbinder is active in the FreeMED project and the principle coder and maintainer.
We at the FreeMED Foundation believe that "Technology Advances. People Stay the Same -- Leigh Rubin"
