I run virtual creative teams and use an assortment of free and fee-based, off-the-shelf tools for collaboration. I use Basecamp for official, client-facing work, files, messaging and project timelines (I hear wryke is quite nice too). I use DropBox for an easy place to put stuff that everyone can look at (helps us to avoid ("loss"). And we use Skype for conference calls and brainstorming. Works well!
