Thanks, Alan! I guess the first tiny linux I used was a Slackware boot disk called ZipSlack. http://www.slackware.com/zipslack/ I don't recall getting very far with it, and shortly thereafter found Slax (then based on Slackware).
The oldest physical media I've booted Linux from is a CD-ROM from 1998 (I didn't boot it in 1998, the CD was from 1998). https://opensource.com/article/16/12/yearbook-linux-test-driving-distros
