Agreed! GIMP never ceases to surprise me with some of its hidden tricks. Even the brush interface itself has some really cool features (for instance, the contents of your clipboard become a brush you can use). It's pretty cool.
For what it's worth, I find Emacs to be a very good alternative to the closed source sublime.
