"Innovation Begins With Connection" - I like that. I also totally agree. After earning my honorable discharge from my post in the Marine Corps, I took a position in management at a well-known tech company. One thing I instantly noticed was that it was far more difficult to build a sense of unity with my new team than it was to do so with a group of Marines. I tried a lot of things, but what really seemed to work was when I was able to convince 5 of the 10 people on my team to start working out with me at LA Fitness 4 times a week.

As in the Marine Corps, physical exertion and increased performance translates to the "connection" that I needed to have with my team. We have a good sense of unity and these five tend to look out for the mission now that they see me as someone that is interested in them as people. The old saying is true, "They don't care how much you know, until they know how much you care."
