Michelle S. Brown is Senior Advisor for election programs at the National Democratic Institute (NDI). For the past 25 years, NDI has provided technical assistance to citizens monitoring elections, helping groups in more than 95 countries to mobilize more than three million activists to evaluate their elections. Ms. Brown directs NDI’s Open Election Data Initiative which advocates for electoral data to be made open and provides tools and products to help citizen organizations use data to hold election management bodies accountable. Throughout her career, Ms. Brown has advised citizen organizations around the world on using data driven approaches (such as Parallel Vote Tabulations) to evaluate election processes. Ms. Brown is also a co-author of an NDI manual that explores the use of quantitative research methods in the design of democracy building programs. Prior to joining NDI, Ms. Brown was active in U.S. political campaigns serving as the National Research Director for America Votes. She has a degree in Political Science from the University of Arizona and a M.P.P from Georgetown University.
