I am a member of the awesome GIMP team and advocate for raising awareness of the tools and workflows available to photographers (and other creatives) using Free/Open Source Software.
I created PIXLS.US as a community for all photographers to share their work and knowledge with each other. I'm super lucky to have friends in many of the great photography Free Software projects.

Well. "Beats" might not be the best description. RT and dt are both quite powerful and capable projects (that aren't in competition at all!).
Also, G'MIC (http://gmic.eu), which also runs as a very popular GIMP plugin but has full command line usage available too.
