What a cool story! Code folding is something I've taken for granted for so long now, I never thought to ponder where it started. I think I first saw it in Emacs, and just assumed it was what "real" editors did.
What a great idea. I'll have to work Sigil into my toolkit. I've known about it for years, but never got around to making good use of it. I'll definitely check it out.
