Great! I'm glad you've found it. I know what you mean when you say it's "simpler" than GIMP, but i have to caution you, at the same time: it's not as simple as it seems. It has a lot of features, and its own workflow. It takes some practise to get used to. Then again, what doesn't?
I'm not a JS dev by trade, but when I have a chance to use it, I use javascript-mode in Emacs. Combined with auto-complete and a few other enhancements, it works really well, and I benefit from already knowing the editor.
