Opensource.com

Opensource.com reached a new milestone in June, with a total of 692,826 page views for the month. In fact, 692,826 is an incredible 62,917 (9%) page view improvement on our previous best of 629,909 back in March. We published 91 articles, including 10 posts in our Open Government and Open Data series, 4 in our DevNation Speaker Interview series, and 11 in our new Open Org channel. We also interviewed the winners of Red Hat's first Women in Open Source Awards, Sarah Sharp and Kesha Shah.

Highlights

We had 66% of the content published on the site come from the open source community, 38% new authors, and 34% previous contributors (staff included) in June. Our community moderators contributed 23 articles last month (25% of our published content), and we welcomed a new moderator, Aleksandar Todorović.

Get involved

Share your story and see our 2015 editorial calendar for writing opportunities. We're looking for stories on upcoming themes, including diversity and kids in open source, and we're planning our Most Open Month in October, when we want to feature a bunch of first-time Opensource.com contributors. (If you're a first-time writer, don't worry—our editors will help you through the writing and editing process.)

Send us your open source project success stories, the story of how you started using Linux, or documentation tips for our new Doc Dish column. And we're always looking for contributors to our recurring columns, including Apache, DevOps, open hardware, Humanitarian Free and Open Source Software (HFOSS), and content management systems.

Are you organizing an open source conference or event? Be sure to add it to our community calendar.

Editor's Pick 6

Here are a few articles you might have missed in June:

  1. In the first week of June, Ben Cotton recommended using wikis for documentation, but then he wrote another article explaining why using a rendered language can be a better option for some projects.
  2. Benjamin Kerensa started a new Open Web column for us and interviewed Priyanka Nag, a Mozilla Rep, about why an open web is important for India.
  3. When he was in film school, Seth Kenlon couldn't afford the tools professors expected him to have for classes. "I thought technology was making the world better. And what's more, I thought it was making the world better for everyone, unconditionally," he writes. Then he discovered better open source solutions, which he explained in his article about how the tools don't get you the job.
  4. Mikey Ariel kicked off a three-part documentation series with Content strategy: the new philosophy of technical documentation.
  5. So you wanna be a Docker contributor? Charles Vickery will help you get started with his article 5 steps to becoming a quality Docker contributor.

(Technically, I picked seven. Editorial prerogative?)
